Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection Review

Metal Gear Solid: Legacy/ Collection Cover

From critically acclaimed director Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy /Collection allows the player to experience most of the metal gear storyline in one package. Originally based off the first game metal gear for the Nintendo Entertainment System whos game creator also happens to be the same Hideo Kojima.  Metal Gear was first born and created by Hideo Kojima through the N.E.S. the video game had gained attention and ridicule for having to avoid the enemy rather than fight.

Featuring eight complete games (Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid 1, Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition, and Metal Gear Solid: VR missions), The Legacy Collection offers Metal Gear and stealth/action fans a chance to experience all of the heroic game play, compelling design and immersive story telling of the Metal Gear Solid franchise in one complete package.

The only games that are not here are Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, the MGS Acid games for the PSP, and the NES versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2.the collection also comes with an MGS art booklet but you need to buy it from a reliable merchant in order to be able to enjoy the fullest extent of your collection. if you buy it from amazon or any other 3rd party merchant you may be taking a risk of the quality of the DVDs and also having it include the art book as a complete set.

If you purchased this game from an amazon 3rd party merchant while expecting the art book you may have the price raised compared to the other sellers on amazon who specifically stated exclusion of art book, you can contact Amazon Customer Service for price match to adjust for the exclusion of art book. Amazon's representatives are always helpful and always offer viable options for the customer. but usually are at the mercy of the merchant they choose to do business with. it is very important to be able to rely on customer reviews to influence your decision.

The Metal Gear Franchise really failed to meet it's full potential after Hideo Kojima (Creator/ Developer) and David Hayter (Voice Actor/ Solid Snake) were fired from the production of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain which also happened to be the final metal gear solid game to end the franchise. Metal Gear lost its way really the moment Hideo Kojima decided to make special forces agent "Raiden" the star of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

By not properly introducing the player to Raiden in previous metal gear games or as an unlockable special feature with his own full length mission that does not disrupt the full length game play of Solid Snake the video games creator unknowingly triggered the eventual fall from grace of the metal gear franchise and the eventual firing of himself and David Hayter (Solid Snake). Production errors and script errors also contributed to the franchises demise despite its success as a franchise.

The franchise gained the reputation for being a shoot 'em Role-Playing Game (RPG) that didn't take the direction of the plot too seriously while still having a sense of humor despite being in serious situations. the game eventually became an open world game that allowed the player to roam around more but still managed to lose the heart and soul of the metal gear game in the process while betraying its creator in the end and trying to fit unnecessary plots and game style formats into the franchise prequels, sequels, and spin-offs.
